On the last week of the holidays, there is supposedly only 3 practices right?
However, due to the upcoming performance on 1 July, which is the first week, wednesday, there will be an increase in the no. of practices on the last week. We need to do some adjustments to the placing and spacing, so, got no choice.

I'm sure everyone would agree with “台上五分钟，台下十年工。”
Thank you everyone for putting in their best just for th syf yesterday!
We suffered it tgt, we faced it tgt, we enjoyed it tgt, & we'll celebrate tgt! :D
Oh and Nanyang girls got GWH.
Well, we should be sooo pleased with our results right?!
From all th COPs we heard through trainings and trainings,
Don't even think abt Bronze or Silver now, but GOLD!!
All the windwind rainrain we had gone through tgt is worth while.
Especially th intense training Ms Tan had given us ystd morning.
(Before SYF) Yesterday's tiredness, stress, nervousness, encouragement & SWEAT,
(After SYF) Turned into sweet smiles aft th showcase!
(Before results) Today's anxiety and clutching of fingers,
(After results) Made everyone stunned, SCREAM which turned into TEARS.
And then we get,
HAPPINESS!
I'm sure this is one of our happiest moments in life, something we could look back w/o guilt and be proud of ourselves!
Let's strive even better for th next SYF in 2011.
But before that, show th world how we achieved our GOLD on Saturday!

FAQs on INTERNATIONAL DANCE

Do I have to take both Ballet and Modern Dance?
Yes, you have to take both. As we said, ballet is as our foundation, while modern dance is our niche.

I still don't understand what you guys dancing for modern dance?
We have a mixture. In our dance, we learn Contemporary more, followed by jazz and etc.

I know that SYF is coming up, will i get selected?
There is going to be a selection by the teacher for the upcoming SYF, so you do have a chance to participate the upcoming SYF.

I don't have dance background, can i join INTERNATIONAL DANCE?
YES! we do welcome all to try out, regardless you have dance background or not.

Is INTERNATIONAL DANCE FOR GIRLS ONLY?
NO! we do welcome guys to join us.

When is the AUDITION again?
It will be on 7th January 2009, Wednesday, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
Walk up the stairs near the library stairs, then turn left, walk right down to the toilets, and you will see the dance room.

What do I have to wear for the AUDITION?
Wear PE attire is enough.

When will I know I have been selected?
You will know within a week whether you got selected by INTERNATIONAL DANCE.

Fantastic job DANCERS! :D we did well today for our performance!
all the hard work and not forgetting the muscle aches that we had to endure throughout the week, but i believe with the best pal for our muscle aches, YOKO YOKO, we made it through today!

the whole week's effort been paid off, i guess. But, please please, dont forget the steps once you come back for practice on the 29th cause we are already starting school and we'll all be BUSY so practice your steps/ run through your steps each night before you sleep! let's do our very best for SYF and make us feel proud of ourselves! :D

Hello girls, this is JMC (go to hell if you don't know me) here, and for what fuck? To give you instructions for the upcoming dance camp, h00ray! :D

Firstly, the dance camp will be held on Monday 10am-6pm. the Sec3s will be the dance camp overall in-charge, so that means we will not be playing with you guys, and instead the Sec1s&2s will be divided into 5 different group:

Anyway, during the dance camp there'll be a water game (yipee!) so between your group members, PLEASE discuss the strategy of water game, for example using waterguns, pails etc during the competition with the other groups. If you guys didn't discuss any strategy to make the other groups hella wet (vice versa), and they come up with sick ideas and your group loses I duno arh *shrugs*
The Sec3s will be joining in the game, muahahahah~!

Some Guidelines for the Leaflets making.
Your leaflets must be:
1) A5-sized paper, meaning half an A4 paper.
2) You want use plain A4 paper or coloured paper, up to you.
3) Make it ATTRACTIVE. (MUST MUST MUST!)
4) Must pass up by tomorrow (Wednesday, 29/10)
5) If you can't get it done by tomorrow, meet up with me some other day to pass it to me.
6) The informations below must be included.
7) Do it as a one page leaflet, not card type. (Last minute added in)

You must include:
1) "INTERNATIONAL DANCE" BIGBIGBIGGGG!!!!!
2) Pictures of Dancing/ Dance(s)/ Dancers etc. OR Photos of International Dance from: NCHS ID Gallery
3) Achievements, which could be found on the left side bar, scroll down, its below "Our Vision". (No need ALL achievements, current ones or prominent ones will do.)

Farewell speech dedicated to Sec4s
From Secondary One International Dancers

It has barely been a year,
For us to liaise.
Our 5th month of arrival,
Has clashed with your sudden departure.
We can’t bear to leave you all,
But time and tide wait for no man.
We never had the time,
To know you all better.

A unanimous agreement, we never bonded enough,
And that’s just the main reason,
Why we “lose” out to Chinese Dance.
But our hopes for International Dance have not faltered;
We will do our best to maintain your high expectations.
It was a potential possibility for us to bond,
But our shyness got the best of us.
Little did you know, we were extremely hyper,
But we denied it in front of you all.
It’s not because we aren’t close,
It’s because we dare not.
We are simply afraid that you might think we aren’t taking things seriously,
But when we realized that you all also embraced each others’ madness,
It’s just too late.
We really regretted for not communicating with you.
But we can’t cry over spilled milk right, can we?
A lesson was learnt.
“To cherish whatever we have before it’s too late.”
We thought you were all very serious and strict,
So we dared not really
Communicate much with you all.
Our apologies.

At the beginning, we were all
From totally different worlds,
Maybe from two different crazy planets.
But it’s because of today, this special day,
Where we, gathered together.
To eat, drink, cry, and be merry.

Hahass... The funniest thing…
That some of us were involved in..
To play pranks on the rest,
And made them kind of worried.
But the truth is still kept among us.

We aren’t very close,

This is specially written by Alicia Tan and Erica Ho from 1E, on behalf of all the Secondary One International Dancers, to dedicate it to the departing Secondary Four Seniors, and thanking them for everything that they did to make NCHS International Dance Troup so lively! And last but not least, to wish them all the best for their upcoming O’levels!!

It all started in year 2006.

We were abruptly told that we were no longer DANCE but INTERNATIONAL DANCE. All of a sudden, the once united Dance club 'splitted' into two. We had no choice but to accept this fact.

Then came our first performance with that current batch of Sec Fours. We were given one month to master a completely new dance - Spring Celebration. We faced a lot of difficulties and finally performed without any confidence. The performance was a success. Though mistakes are inevitable, we were still proud of ourselves. I still vividly remember the feeling of satisfaction we all had and all the perspirations for that entire month was definitely worth it.

Soon it was April. It was time for the Sec Fours to step down. It was when we, inexperienced Secondary Two students, became the seniors for this newly formed CCA. We had no Sec Threes and we weren't close to the Sec Fours and we were often left helpless in times of crisis. April, our President, struggled to get used to becoming a leader and every single one of us became responsible for this CCA overnight. Luckily, the seniors from Chinese Dance were there to help.

In a flash, it was 2007 and it was definitely a very memorable year. After several months of gruesome training and practices, the time for us to prove our worth had arrived. The Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging of Dances. I remembered that I said to many people, "We will do our best and have no regrets." I even remember making a pact with April that after the performance, we would say, "That was my best performance." However, I am ashamed to say that that was not my best performance and I could have done better.

As we all know, we got a Silver. Many of us shed tears that day when we got hold the results. Yes, we were extremely disappointed. We all must have felt that all the hard work that we had put in did not pay off and I too, felt the same way.

To the Sec Fours, that was our one and only SYF and the disappointment was not measurable. I remember that whenever JiaPei and I used to walk out of the school main gate, we would look at the banner hanging on the fence, hoping to having a 'GOLD' next to 'INTERNATIONAL DANCE' 's name. However, that chance never came and I am sure that this will always be a regret in our hearts.

Then came our chance to redeem ourselves. The Genting Highlands International Dance Competition during December that year. Every single one of the performers put in 110 % and we are extremely proud of it. Personally, that was the first time i really enjoyed the SYF dance. Even though we got a silver, I have no regrets. I am sure all the dancers think so too. So what if we did not get a Gold? So what if the judging was unfair? We worked hard and played hard during that period of time and that is what matters.

How time flies, it is already 11th April 2008. Tomorrow will be our last performance with every single one of you. On behalf of all the Sec Fours, I thank all juniors for all the fun and memories. Yes, I know it is cliche but this is how we truly feel. So, let us enjoy ourselves to the maximum and strive hard tomorow.

Bring International Dance to greater heights and we will be waiting for the good news when we return next year.

1. Chinese Orchestra (Silver) - Can listen to some folk songs or some heroic songs.

2. String Orchestra (Gold) - Nice Romantic Music. Hardly schools have String Orchestra!

3. Wind Orchestra (Silver) - Nice, fast beat rhythm. They may give you a surprise!

danse danseurs.. we got a nice nice precious silver. don cry anymore.. no more tears. it was a great performance... we did well. we did.. so.. lets cheer up and look ahead. this syf shall be kept as one of our most precious memories and learnt as an experience.. this syf is a big step forward for us to get to greater heights...!! ^-^
1 out of 15 schools got gold or gold with honours..!! so, its really veri good that we got a nice nice silver. its our first time participating the SYF under comtemporary dance... its a good start! its not easy to clinch a silver when we have so little dancers and with so mani inexperienced dancers... moreover, the standard is really high..
danse danseurs! don be sad about it anymore! we got a silver but it was a gold with honours effort. haha. there are still many chances for us to prove our capability.. and show our dance to the world and let ppl appreciate it...!
for the next SYF, juniors kao ni men le!!! i believe u guys will do well with this experience..

well, everyone of you guys recieved a little note from dancify...we gave each of you comments on ur movements and how to improve on your dance steps... please take it to heart! everyone's note is different... is AI XIN DE NOTE wor! haha... so take note on the points we listed out and make sure you don make the same mistakes.. danse danseurs gogogo!
SYF is hmm.. three days away. we are left with only one full rehersal... do ur best! remember what mdm tan said? after the dance.. NO BUTS. NO IF. NO REGRETS!! after the syf, we should onli sae that.. Some of u may just find this useful, while some of u might just feel that this is totally lame shit. seriously, if u really feel that this is totally stupid, just ignore this post... But, if ur heart is asking questions like - wad 'i' m lacking, i hope that this post may be of great help to u all...

From some feedback from some dancers, about wad we may be lacking, the mostly said is teamwork, morale, technique/movements, energy, facial expressions.

Teamwork.

Wad is teamwork? Teamwork is the concept of people working together cooperatively. Seriously, do u think our teamwork is to the fullest?! think again...

Do everyone listen seriously to wad the seniors had said, and change your steps without any negative comments?
When asked to practise again, do everyone do it obediently and QUICKLY?
When its time for dance, do everyone reach in time?
When we were asked to do somethings, do we take our time or do it in a swift?

Teamwork had to be improved by being enthusiastic in the dance, and being bonded with the people around you. There should not be any internal quarrel as we are a family. No matter how much you dislike another person, dun show it out. Treat others with respect. No one should abuse their authority, regardless the leader or the committee. With all these criteria, i supposed our teamwork and bonding will be strong.

Morale.

The morale in our dance is getting better and stronger. ITS A GOOD SIGN! But i still hope that everyone loves the CCA and support each other, in order to keep the spirit up high and our morale will be unbreakable.

Teachnique/ Movements.

Indeed, we are not professionals, thus our technique will not be good, movements will not be perfect. However, if this is the case, practise more! i believe in practise makes perfect. Have faith in urself. U CAN DO IT! When dancing with the music, graps the feeling of how ur movements can be nicer. NEVER force thing out of u. The more u feel that u can't do it, the more u should practise. CHALLENGE URSELF!

Energy.

Think!

is ur energy higher then the music of the dance?!
have u put out all ur energy to the fullest?!

Personally, i felt that there are rooms for improvement in the WHOLE dance. i know that to some of u people, u do not understand how to produce energy, when teacher keep saying : where is all ur energy?! in annoyance. Always at tt point, u felt irritated right?! cos she had nve taught us how to produced, and dunno wad she wans.

Now, i have some suggestions, which i hope tt it will be useful for u..

perhaps when u are dancing, feel 'high' about it!
Dance with the mood tuned to ' i love to practise!' , and not ' i practise for the sake of the teacher saying so.. '
Enjoy the dance. Dance to the beat, Dance to the rythem.
Listen to the music, think of ur steps. When should ur movements be strong, and when should ur movements be gentle?

Facial Expression.

Perhaps, quite a number of u were thinking.

What facial expression do the teacher wans?
Am i supposed to smile, laugh or just be normal?

Personally, i feel that the facial expressions should come naturally. Dun force it out, and NEVER show a nervous face to the judges. what do i mean that it comes naturally? When u dance with the music, ur movements, will give u a certain kind of feeling, which i can't really describe. follow ur feeling and the joys in your movements. ur facial expressions will come natually...

In conclusion, the spirit in the dance is VERY IMPORTANT! the passion you have in the dance, will help u to excel in the movements. ENJOY the dance and Dance to the rythem.

DUN WORRY! everyone have gone a good job! if u think this is wad u are lacking, i hope tt this post helps. If this is meaningless to u, perhaps, u have ur own way of dancing... there are certain things which i can hardly explain, so ya got to feel it urself.

its only another 3 more days to SYF. Things are getting better! let the whold dance be filled with our sweat and our tiredness, for the next 3 days. After that, all our hardwork will be verify. JIA YOU!!! lets win a common goal back! NO REGRETS, NO GULITNESS, NO UNHAPPINESS. =D

i know its tough on u all. but here, i really wanna thank those juniors that really put in the effort in the morning practice.. haha i noe who u are..

regarding the so so so strict method we used on u all in the morning practice, well, u all seem to onli really work with the scoldings. pls be more entu jus for that thirdy mintues.. i noe its early in the morning, veri tired, veri sleepy, but taking minutes to walk to ur positions is simply too much, its only 30 min,we don have much time..please cherish it! another thing, please try to understand us. i noe there are lots of grumblings.. like we don dance in the morning and keep scolding but then, if we were really gonna practice, will u all be able to promise me that u all can practice by urself without ppl tellin u to do so?

but still, i wanna apologise for being so strict. its syf!! three weeks away!! we really have to make use of all the time and really put in our best. sorry for being so hard on u guys..haha and again, thanks to those who really took our advice to heart.. its obvious u guys improved. n yes... pls come on time!!

I'm here to HIGHLIGHT that the performance is not compulsory for all.
We joined for the passion.
We are performing under Nan Chiau Alumni instead of Nan Chiau High School Dance Group.

0900 - Reporting of the dancers (Be punctual) , Warm Ups

1000 - Brushing Up on China Blue & Spring Celebration

1130 - Reporting of wushu members

1145 - Mass Washing & Wardrobe Cleaning*

1245 - Report back to hall ~ Short briefing for after lunch programmes

1300 - Lunch

1345 - Relaxation Exercises

1400 - Ketchup, Flush Toilet & Yay Yay Yay**

1420 - China Blue, Spring Celebration & Spanish Dance**

1445 - Notice Board Decoration**

1600 - Hanging Up the dried clothes

1630 - Short Games

1700 - China Blue, Spring Celebration, Spanish Dance, Ketchup, Flush Toilet & Yay Yay Yay**

1745 - Hey Hey Hey Hah! & Debrief & Packing

1800 - Dismissal

* For Mass Washing, we shall be divided into different groups.
- 1 group washing Spanish Dance Costumes
- 2 groups of people washing SYF costumes
- 1 group squeezing the water out of the washed costume
- 1 group in charge of hanging the wet clothes
- 1 group in charge of cleaning the wardrobe
- 1 group in charge of hanging costume that don't need to be washed
- ALL ~ Area Combing

** For these 4 activities, it is left for wushu chairman to plan activities for his members.

Combine School Dance Camp 2006
Dear Fellow Dancers,

These are the things we are going to do during the combine school dance camps. Obey the rules stated. Please report at Nan Chiau High School Foyer at 12pm sharp that day. Be punctual if not we shan't wait for you. The attendance is compulsory. Actions will be taken for absence with invalid reasons. Report in PE attire/ Dance tee, Jazz pants, school shoes - Strictly NO slippers & sandals is allowed. Be well-behave, polite, sociable, enthusiastic, watchful, cooperative & helpful. Take good care of yourself & fellow participants including those who are from other schools.

Combine School Dance Camp 2006
28th December 2006 @ Cresent Girls' School

1.00 - 1.10 Wait for people to arrive

1.10 - 1.30 Warm-up (10 lines)

1.30 - 3.00 Games

3.00 - 3.30 Tea Break

3.30 - 4.30 Dances Performance (2 - 3 items per school) & mass dance

4.30 - 5.00 Exchange presents

5.00 - 5.30 Pack-up & Dismissal

Reminders:
- Bring 1 present per person ~NO food, NO glass, NO undergarments & NO "unlucky gifts"
- Bring water- Bring leotard & tights
- Bring music for dances
- Sort them out into 10 groups (leaders)

Rules:
- NO scratching
- NO biting
- NO kicking
- NO hitting
- NO pulling of leotards &/OR tights
- NO pulling of hair
